Dodecanese Islands
The Dodecanese Islands are located in the far east of Greece, off the coast of Turkey.
The main islands are 12 (hence the name Dodecanese): Rhodes, Kos, Astypalaia, Kalymnos, Karpathos, Kasos, Kastellorizo, Leros, Nisyros, Patmos, Symi and Tilos.
They are in total about 200 islands, but only 26 are inhabited all year round.
Most of the islands now lives on tourism, but their early history is testified by the many museums and archaeological remains present even in the smaller islands.
Among the Dodecanese Islands: Rhodes is the the largest and the most touristy, while Tilos, small and peaceful, is appreciated by campers.
