Guide of Ionian Islands

The Ionian Islands offer breathtaking Mediterranean views and all types of beaches.  There are seven main islands surrounded by numerous some smaller ones. There is a mix of Italian and Greek culture on the islands, reflecting the history of roman and greek conquest. The major islands are Corfu, Zakynthos, Paxos, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Cerigo and Lefkada, all offer great places to visit, crystal clear water and extraordinary natural beauty. The Ionian Islands are special because of the presence of greenery, there are mountainous areas that are rich in woodland and dense hills of olive groves. The islands really have an extraordinary landscape, rich in tree species such as oaks, brooms and eucalyptus. Various water sports are available on the islands, from kitesurfing to snorkelling - on the Ionian Islands you can choose the best beach and water for you.

The Islands 

Corfu is the most visited island and has a very nice centre with good restaurants and shops, as well as the wonderful beaches scattered throughout the island. Ithaca has wonderful beaches and breathtaking views. Zakynthos is the perfect travel destination for divers and nature enthusiasts because it is home to the Caretta Caretta or loggerhead sea turtles, they use the beaches if the island to lay their eggs. The island of Lefkada almost seems like a peninsula as it is connected by bridge to the mainland, so is very easy to reach. There are some lovely inland villages to explore that are rich in historical architecture. Cerigo is the ideal island for those who enjoy ancient Byzantine buildings, it possible to retrace the past through the architecture of these ancient villages. Paxos is a captivating island because of its excellent beaches and crystal clear waters. Finally, Kefalonia is loved by just about every type of traveler as it is the largest island and is always has a pleasant breeze.
