Book your Viking Line ferry with NetFerry

Viking Line is a shipping company headquartered in Mariehamn, in the Åland Islands, which has linked Finland, the Åland archipelago and Sweden since 1959. Its first ferry, the S/S Viking, entered service in the spring of that year at the initiative of sea captain Gunnar Eklund. Today Viking Line Abp is listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange, employs more than 2,000 people and carries over 6 million passengers a year across the Baltic Sea, with departures from Stockholm, Turku, Helsinki, Tallinn and the Åland Islands.

On NetFerry you can compare timetables and fares for every Viking Line route and book tickets online for foot passengers, cars, motorcycles, motorhomes and caravans, with assistance in English before, during and after your journey.

Viking Line routes

Viking Line ferries operate on three main corridors in the northern Baltic:

Finland–Sweden. The Helsinki–Stockholm route, calling at Mariehamn, is an overnight crossing of around 16 hours: you leave in the evening and arrive the following morning, with daily departures in both directions. Between Turku and Stockholm the crossing takes around 10 hours 30 minutes, with two departures a day in each direction: the daytime sailing calls at Mariehamn and the overnight sailing at Långnäs.

Gulf of Finland. Helsinki–Tallinn is the company's busiest route: the crossing takes around 2 hours, there are several departures every day, and both terminals are a short walk from the city centre. It is the quickest way to reach the Estonian capital from Finland, even as a day trip.

Åland Islands. Mariehamn, the archipelago's main town, and the port of Långnäs can be reached from Stockholm, Turku and Helsinki. Åland is an autonomous, Swedish-speaking region of Finland made up of thousands of islands and islets lying between Finland and Sweden.

In the summer months and on selected dates the network expands with seasonal sailings between Stockholm, Mariehamn and Tallinn, and with Birka Gotland departures to Visby on the island of Gotland, Riga and Härnösand on the Swedish coast.

The Viking Line fleet

The Viking Line fleet consists of five vessels, plus the Birka Gotland, operated by Gotland Alandia Cruises, a company in which Viking Line holds a 50% stake alongside Gotlandsbolaget:

  • Viking Glory, the newest ship, in service since 2022 on the Turku–Stockholm route;
  • Viking Grace, in service since 2013 on the same route;
  • Viking XPRS, the fast ferry on the Helsinki–Tallinn route;
  • Gabriella and Viking Cinderella, deployed on the Helsinki–Mariehamn–Stockholm route;
  • Birka Gotland, sailing from Stockholm to Mariehamn and Visby.

Viking Glory and Viking Grace run on liquefied natural gas (LNG), combined with a growing share of biogas. On the Turku–Stockholm route, Viking Line is developing a green shipping corridor together with the ports of both cities, with the aim of making it fossil-free by 2035.

On-board services

On Viking Line ferries you can choose between interior and exterior cabins, family cabins and suites; on short crossings such as Helsinki–Tallinn you can also travel without accommodation. The ships offer à la carte and buffet restaurants, bars, cafés and on-board shops. On routes calling at the Åland Islands, which lie outside the EU VAT area, duty-free shopping is available on board.
