Discover some of the most beautiful castles in Wales with Netferry!

Come with NetFerry and discover Wales, a little country full of dragon flags fluttering in the wind, castles and so much grass! Together with the daffodil and the leek, the dragon is a national symbol for  Wales, which is also known as the 'land of the red dragon'. History tells us that the kings of Aberffraw first adopted the dragon symbol in the early fifth century to symbolise their power and authority after the Romans withdrew from Britain. Later, around the seventh century, it became known as the Red Dragon of Cadwaladr under King of Gwynedd (655-682). Wales is one of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom. The most famous cities, such as Cardiff, Newport and Swansea, are located in the south, while the north is more rural and features breathtaking scenery.

NetFerry strongly recommends visiting Wales' many castles, there are over 400 and most are related to the stories of King Arthur and Merlin the Wizard. The castles and forts were mainly built around the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries by King Edward to maintain control over the people. Today Netferry will tell you about our favourite Welsh castles.

Cardiff Castle

Magnificent Cardiff Castle has mighty architecture combining different Medieval, Norman, Gothic and Victorian styles. It is located right in the centre of the capital and features a Norman keep, a type of fortified tower built inside the castle in the Middle Ages, along with the museum dedicated to Welsh soldiers. The interior is just as fascinating, decorated with marble, gold with wooden beams and panelling in some places.

Carmarthen Castle

Carmarthen Castle, built in 1094, is said to be the birthplace of the iconic wizard, Merlin. The castle, located in one of Wales's oldest villages in Wales, has magnificent towers from which you get amazing views of the surrounding countryside and the River Towny.

Castle Glandyfi

Castle Glandyfi makes you feel as if you have stepped back in time, mainly because you can also spend the night here to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere! The castle is a popular location for weddings, and who knows, you may be invited to join in with the locals?!

Harlech Castle

Harlech Castle dates back to the 13th century, it's set in a unique location with views of both Snowdonia and the sea, the surrounding landscape is unforgettable. The castle, built by King Edward is part of the nine castles commissioned by the king in the areas around Snowdonia.

Dinas Bran Castle

Dinas Bran Castle is a set of ruins and a fortress dating back to the XII century. Here at Netferry, we liked this one because it has a great story, according to legend it was inhabited by a giant, who hid treasure here, which is yet to be discovered!
