Netferry explores Copenhagen: Cheap things to do part 1

Copenhagen is known as one of the most expensive cities in Europe, this can pose a challenge for those travelling on a budget. So, in this blog, Netferry provides you with some things to do that won't bust your budget. This list was tried and tested during my trip to Copenhagen, so enjoy your stay with these money-saving activities:

1. Visit the Little Mermaid statue

Some say its great, others say it's underwhelming, but anyway, it receives over a million visitors per year and its got to be done whilst in Copenhagen. This cute bronze statue was created by Edvard Eriksen in 1913 and depicts the little mermaid from the famous children’s book by Hans Christian Anderson, which eventually became the Soviet-made film ‘The Little Mermaid’ in 1968.

2. Stroll around Nyhavn

This is the lovely area you see on all the postcards, with all the beautiful colourful houses next to the water. Taking a stroll around this area of the city is free of charge and will give you the chance to get some classic shots of Copenhagen at its finest.

3. Climb the Tower of Christiansborg Palace

This is a nice thing to do, why not get a bit of exercise by climbing up the tower, plus take some beautiful panoramic shots from the top. It's free but is often crowded, so get there early.

4. Go swimming at Brygge baths, Copenhagen harbour

This swimming area is located in a cordoned off area of the harbour and is open to swimmers between 1st June and 30th September. If you are visiting outside this time of year, it's nice to take a stroll down to the harbour anyway, there are plenty of places to stop, get a coffee and watch the world go by.

5. Visit Torvehallerne Market This is a large, covered market in the city centre; it sells everything from fresh local fish and meat to takeaway food. There is plenty to look at and taste here if you like food - it won’t disappoint.
