Guide of Denia

Dénia is located on the Costa Blanca on the Mediterranean sea renowned for its many castles and fortresses which were built in defence of pirate raids. Dénia is near Valencia and is famous for Montgò Park, which is a natural park that is rich in fauna and flora. 

History

The city of Dénia has Roman origins and was known as Dianum, its greatest moment splendour was under Arab domination, before the Christian conquests that from 1244 onwards led the city into decline. In the nineteenth century, Dénia began growing economically thanks to commercial activities related to maritime activities, the raisin trade and tourism.

Places to visit

Do not miss the two Arab neighborhoods of Les Roques and Baix la Mar, which have little streets that descend towards the modern city centre. The buildings of historical and architectural interest are the Yacimiento de la Almadraba, a Roman maritime villa.  The Castillo was built by the Moors on top of pre-existing buildings that today house the archaeological museum. There are some historical walls such as Casa Fortificada and several watchtowers such as Torre de Carrals and Torre de la Almadraba.
