Book your Brittany Ferries with NetFerry

Brittany Ferries is the trading name of BAI Bretagne Angleterre Irlande S.A., a French shipping company based in Roscoff, Brittany. Founded in 1972, it made its first crossing on 2 January 1973 on the Roscoff–Plymouth route. Today it is the leading operator on the western and central English Channel, linking France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain and the Channel Islands with a network of twelve routes along the so-called Atlantic Arc.

On NetFerry you can compare timetables and fares for all Brittany Ferries routes and book tickets online for foot passengers, cars, motorcycles, campervans and caravans, with customer support in English before, during and after your trip.

Brittany Ferries routes

The network covers three main sailing corridors:

English Channel (France–United Kingdom). These are the highest-frequency routes: Caen (Ouistreham)–Portsmouth, Cherbourg–Poole, Cherbourg–Portsmouth, Le Havre–Portsmouth, Saint-Malo–Portsmouth and Roscoff–Plymouth. Crossings take between roughly 4 and 10 hours, with daytime and overnight departures.

Bay of Biscay (United Kingdom–Spain). The Portsmouth–Bilbao, Portsmouth–Santander and Plymouth–Santander routes take you to northern Spain by sea in 20–32 hours, avoiding the drive across France. These are long crossings designed as mini-cruises, with cabins, restaurants and onboard entertainment.

Ireland (from France and Spain). The Cherbourg–Rosslare, Roscoff–Cork and Rosslare–Bilbao routes connect Ireland with the Continent without transiting the United Kingdom, an option particularly valued since Brexit by those travelling with a vehicle. Cherbourg–Rosslare now operates daily.

Since 2025 the company has also run sea links to Guernsey and the Channel Islands, having absorbed the Condor Ferries brand and signed a fifteen-year contract with the States of Guernsey.

The fleet: hybrid and LNG ships

Brittany Ferries operates a fleet of twelve vessels, from cruise ferries to fast craft, undergoing one of the most extensive renewal programmes in the industry. Five new ships entered service between 2020 and 2025, including:

  • Salamanca (2022) and Santoña (2023), powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and deployed on the long routes to Spain;
  • Saint-Malo (February 2025), the first large LNG-electric hybrid ferry in the European merchant fleet, serving the Saint-Malo–Portsmouth route;
  • Guillaume de Normandie (April 2025), sister ship to the Saint-Malo, which replaced the long-serving Normandie on the Caen–Portsmouth route.

The two hybrid vessels, both ready for shore-side electric power, were purchased outright by the company in March 2026. The fleet also includes ships such as the Pont-Aven, the flagship deployed on the Spanish routes, the Galicia, the Armorique, the Barfleur and the Mont St Michel.

Onboard services

The onboard standard is that of a cruise ferry: inside and outside cabins (compulsory on overnight crossings to Spain), reclining seats, restaurants serving French cuisine, bars, boutiques, children's areas and cinemas on the larger ships. Pets are welcome, with pet-friendly cabins and onboard kennels available on several vessels; rules vary by route, so it is advisable to check them when booking. On the Spanish and Irish routes, travelling overnight means you arrive rested, with your vehicle ready to drive off.
