Book your hydrofoil to Favignana now!

1. The round trip

Your excursion to the largest of Egadi Islands begins with a simple question: which is your closest port? Because you can reach Favignana in just 30 minutes, from either Trapani or Marsala, by purchasing your ticket directly from our ferry ticket portal.

If you are traveling from Trapani, you have more flexibility; there are numerous ferries to and from the island each day. From Marsala, on the other hand, the options are limited to three services a day, but all are at very convenient times. It's best to leave early in the morning to have the whole day available to explore the island and relax in the sun on its most beautiful beaches. Then, for the return, you could take the 18:00 hydrofoil to Marsala or the 18:55 to Trapani.

2. A walk through the historic center

Once on the island, we recommend heading to the nearby historic center. Here you can stroll along the narrow winding streets built with stone from Mount Erice and get lost among the shops and restaurants.

The village dates back to around 1600. Before then, inhabitants lived in caves, and it is here that the island's history reveals itself; it has been inhabited since prehistoric times. It has always been a busy outpost for various groups, including the Phoenicians, Romans, and finally, Arabs.

To enjoy the colors of the sunset, take a walk along the seafront before catching the return hydrofoil, and either before or after, be sure to pass by Piazza Europa, the main town square, and Piazza Madrice, where you will find the Church of Mother Maria SS Immacolata.

3. Santa Caterina Castle and the former Florio plant

The Castle of Santa Caterina, situated 310 meters above sea level, is on the top of a hill of the same name; it divides the island in two and is the highest point on the island. Visible from both Trapani and Erice, the castle was built by the Saracens in the 9th century. It was at the center of a very complex history. There are various ways to reach the castle. Still, it marks the beginning of a captivating trekking route, as one of the most beautiful panoramic spots on the island, overlooking the entire Egadi archipelago.

The former Florio factory, on the other hand, is a fascinating testimony to industrial archeology, demonstrating the importance of tuna to the island's economic development. Favignana was one of the largest fishing hubs in the Mediterranean, home to equipment, boats, and anchors used in the industry. The Florio family first began conserving tuna in tins, among other methods.

4. Relax on the beach and tour the island by boat

The sea is the island's main attraction, however. Its stunning coves are the backdrop for the summer holidays of tourists from all over who flock here to find unspoiled nature and a true oasis of peace on Favignana.

Which is the most beautiful beach on the island? This is the oldest question of all time, and choosing is impossible; it opens heated debate between locals. So we'd recommend the best-known and most popular beaches, even if it's always possible to find your own corner of paradise wherever you decide to go.

Bue Marino, for example, is one of the most famous beaches for those who love diving off the cliffs. It was once a tuff quarry. Then there is Cala Rossa, with white sand and crystal clear water. Perfect for those who want to go snorkeling. On the other hand, Cala Azzurra is particularly suitable for families with children. The list is long; Lido Burrone, Spiaggia Calamoni and Punta Sottile are just a few other incredible places that deserve at least a dip. You'll be spoilt for choice!

For an unforgettable experience, we recommend opting for a tour of the island by boat. Perfect for a summer day, especially if you decide to extend your excursion or if it's not your first time on the island. Tours usually last all day, with lunch on board included! It is an excellent experience, and you will get the chance to swim in unreachable caves and bays, discovering much more about the island from the captain's stories, which are often somewhere between history and legend!

Favignana is relaxing and busy enough to be sociable; with a thousand-year history, it's a gem just a few miles off the Sicilian coast. If you've never been there, you must! If, on the other hand, you've already visited it, why not go back? It's one of those islands you can't get tired of; each time you visit, you discover something new.
