Albania, located on Southeastern Europe's Balkan Peninsula, is a small country with a gorgeous coastline and the stunning Albanian Alps. The most popular beaches are located along the Albanian Riviera. This area, also known as Bregu and lies along the Northeastern Ionian coast, encompassing the areas around Sarandë and Vlorë in Southwestern Albania.

There are some stunning beaches and little villages along this section of coast, which also used to be a hippie paradise for backpackers. These days the area has become a lot more developed, but it's easy to see why due to the crystalline water and white sand. The Albanian Riviera is not as cheap as it used to be for the backpackers, but it's still significantly less expensive than other Mediterranean destinations. If you stick to spots frequented by locals, then you are likely to find bargains for food and drink as well as feel immersed in Albanian culture.

Dublin, the capital!

You'll probably arrive at the capital either by boat or plane, and you won't be disappointed as Dublin is a charming and bustling capital. Some of the best places to visit are Grafton Street, which was constructed in 1708 by a wealthy Dawson family. It began as a residential street for Dublin's more affluent citizens during the eighteenth century, but today it is full of shops, restaurants and pubs. Trinity College is also an essential place to visit, the library's highlight is the Long Room, with its fantastic interior, that is both grand and cosy at the same time! This iconic library is also home to The Book of Kells, which is a 9th-century manuscript that documents the four Gospels of the life of Jesus Christ. The Book of Kells is Ireland's most significant cultural treasure and the world's most famous medieval manuscript. Kilmainham Gaol is a former prison, located about 4km from the centre converted into a museum by the Government of Ireland. Many Irish revolutionaries were imprisoned and executed here, including the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising. They hold some great exhibitions giving some background on the Troubles in Ireland.

Bari, located on the heel of southern Italy, is a thriving city, sometimes overlooked by tourists who often flock to nearby Lecce. Bari is much bigger than Lecce and has a lot more to offer tourists than just beautiful buildings. It is an ancient city that traces its roots back more than 2,000 years. Bari grew in importance under the Romans who developed its harbour, and today the port is still active and a significant contributor to the Bari's economy. It is also well connected, with ferries heading to Greece, Albania and Croatia. There are also good train connections to the north of Italy and local gems to the south such as, Brindisi, which is like a scaled-down version of Bari and closer to Puglia's best beaches.
